I wrote this song on the eve of OCT 24, 2009, perhaps the single largest day of global action in the history of the planet. The song was conceived with a dose of optimism that my president might just step up in this crucial moment and take a leadership position at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen this December. While we are told the chances for a meaningful and binding resolution grow slimmer day by day, there is unquestionably a global movement around this issue of ultimate importance. We know the changes that need to be made; they are individual and global. 350 is an important number. 350 parts per million is what many scientists, climate experts, and progressive national governments are now saying is the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. The change we need is 350 ppm, as soon as possible.For the video, I used the open source footage from around the world posted via 350.org and some video of my own from San Francisco, CA. The song was recorded with the help of my friend Gabe Nelson and if you want to throw in a line or two let me know.
