The People’s Garden Initiative invites you to join the movement to promote and grow healthy gardens that give back to the community and the environment!

A People’s Garden can serve many purposes, from beautification to growing vegetables and fruits to providing a habitat for wildlife. Whatever your reason/s, a People’s Garden always includes these 3 components:

  • It’s a collaborative effort that is run by the community.
  • It benefits the community, by growing healthy produce, providing a habitat for local wildlife or a place of leisure and recreation, and/or conserves soil and resources.
  • It uses sustainable practices that renew the environment, for example planting native species, composting, and capturing rainwater.

"I encourage you to participate and be involved. Real and effective action starts small and it starts with our communities. " – Agricultlure Secretary Tom Vilsack

Share your story! This is the beginning; we’d love to know your experiences and how you are benefitting and giving back.
